How to Edit the Menu Navigation in Squarespace 7.1

Regularly reviewing your navigation menu headings is essential for maintaining a user-friendly and intuitive website. It’s very simple to tailor your website navigation within the easy-to-use interface of Squarespace 7.1.

Please Note:

These instructions are for editing on a desktop screen rather than mobile device.

Step by step instructions

  • Log in to your Squarespace account

  • Click on the page edit button to open the page editor.

  • When you hover over pages on the left hand menu you will see a cog icon appear - click this to access your page settings.

  • You can then edit the Page Title, Navigation Title or URL Slug.

    • Page Title: The Page Title is the main title or headline that appears at the top of a webpage. It serves as a concise description of the page's content. It helps visitors understand what the page is about and can also be used for search engine optimisation purposes.

    • Navigation Title: The Navigation Title is the text that appears in the website's navigation menu, usually as a clickable link. It can be a shorter and more concise version of the Page Title, specifically tailored for navigation purposes. The Navigation Title is often used when the Page Title is too long or needs to be simplified for the menu layout.

    • URL Slug: The URL Slug is the part of a webpage's URL (Uniform Resource Locator) that comes after the domain name. URL Slugs are typically derived from the Page Title or a simplified version of it. They help to create descriptive and organized URLs that are easier for users to understand and remember.

  • You can also change other page settings such as the SEO from this menu. It’s a good idea to make sure your SEO Title and Description are filled out.

  • Click Save on the button editing box

  • To rearrange menu items you can simply click and drag pages into new positions on the left hand Navigation Menu editor - these changes will be reflected on your main website navigation.
